Message So at the time I was living in Houston and had owned my pearl convertible for about a year. I worked downtown at the time and I was in the habit of getting in early. There are some nice driving roads in Houston - unfortunately the are usually full of traffic. I can't remember all the street names- maybe the locals can help me out?

One morning I left home around 5:30 and dropped in for my morning work out at Post Oak Y. It must have been fall because it was cool enough for a Canadian to actually drop the top in Houston without turning into a sweaty mess :-)

Anyways, I left the Y around 6:30 and started heading down Memorial Drive through the park. There was unusually light traffic, the sun was coming up, it was gorgeous. Anyways, as you approach downtown, there is a right turn, then a stoplight and then a left turn onto Allen Pkwy. I had to stop at the light to make the left turn, and in a completely rare event I found myself at the front of the line of traffic - clear sailing ahead :-)

So those familiar with Houston probably agree that Allen Pkwy is a nice stretch of road with decent curves and a low speed limit relative to the quality of the road. (well that is what I thought)

Light turns green. Off I go as fast as my little NA vert would let me. Curves, speed, tunes, insane laughter. And I just as I get to downtown, feeling like I just won an Indy car race and ready to wave to the crowd in victory, I see a cop parked on the side of the road...waiting...for ME.

He points and waves me in. I comply, and being a Canadian recently relocated to the South, (and one that probably watched too many episodes of COPS), I clearly and deliberately raised my hands high above the basket handle so that they are clearly visible.

He approaches the car and says sternly ." What do you think you were doing?".

I said, " I don't know officer. I know I was speeding." and then I lamely added, " I was first in line at the turn in to Allen Pkwy"

Cop says "uh huh" and heads back to his car.

A few minutes later he returns.

"no front plate, inspection tags are out of date, and you were 39 over"

Then he hands me two tickets, for the plate and the inspection. He explains that I can avoid paying the tickets if I get the car inspected asap and send in a picture with the front plate on the car.

So then I am thinking "ok, now here comes the big one" when he smiles and says "Nice morning for a drive. Have a nice day" and starts heading back to his car.

Nice morning indeed!
